Aishwarya Dhanush awarded Pride of Tamil Nadu at New York

Amid rumours that not ‘all is well’ between her and her husband Dhanush, Aishwarya left for U.S. late last week to take part in the Indian film festival held in New York. Aishwarya’s debut directorial venture 3, which hit the screens a few months back but failed to make any notable impression, had been selected for screening at this festival.

Though the film failed to click with the masses, Aishwarya’s maiden attempt at direction came in for appreciation from the critics as well as the print and television media. Aishwarya’s departure for U.S. sans Dhanush’s company raised quite a few eye-brows as it almost ‘confirmed’ that the misunderstanding which had crept in the relation between Aishwarya and Dhanush might be of ‘serious proportions’.

Movie 3 was screened at an auditorium which was jam-packed with observers of the festival and fans of Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. Later, Aishwarya was given the Pride of Tamil Nadu award by the New York Tamil Sangham at a gala event at Queens Museum of Art in the Big Apple. Prakash M. Swamy, the president of the Sangam, appreciated Aishwarya’s directorial instincts and described 3 as a ‘bold film’ by a debutant director.

He also had words of praise for Aishwarya for her simplicity off-screen despite being the elder daughter of superstar Rajinikanth and wife of Dhanush. He drew referenes to Aishwarya’s dancing abilities and recalled her winning the Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimaamani award for her prowess in bharatanatyam. Aishwarya was then felicitated with gifts by the organizers of the function.
