The wife of the abducted Pradeep Ekneligoda was allegedly harassed verbally in Homagama Magistrate’s court when the case against the abduction was taken up yesterday.
Sandhya Eknaligoda said the government counsel appearing for the Attorney General cross-examined her on her visit to Geneva.
“It had nothing to do with the case. But the counsel kept asking me why I went to Geneva, who sponsored me, how much money I was getting per day and etc,” Mrs Ekneligoda said.
She also alleged that when she said she had gone to raise concern about her missing husband, the state counsel accused her of lobbying against the government and the country.
“They questioned if someone is sponsoring you, they give you an allowance per day. Even the counsel who was questioning me was in Geneva, sponsored by the government-which means on public money,” she said while noting there was no relevance of her visit to Geneva to the case being taken up in court yesterday.
