Aishwarya Dhanush awarded Pride of Tamil Nadu at New York

Amid rumours that not ‘all is well’ between her and her husband Dhanush, Aishwarya left for U.S. late last week to take part in the Indian film festival held in New York. Aishwarya’s debut directorial venture 3, which hit the screens a few months back but failed to make any notable impression, had been selected for screening at this festival.

Though the film failed to click with the masses, Aishwarya’s maiden attempt at direction came in for appreciation from the critics as well as the print and television media. Aishwarya’s departure for U.S. sans Dhanush’s company raised quite a few eye-brows as it almost ‘confirmed’ that the misunderstanding which had crept in the relation between Aishwarya and Dhanush might be of ‘serious proportions’.

Movie 3 was screened at an auditorium which was jam-packed with observers of the festival and fans of Dhanush and Shruti Haasan. Later, Aishwarya was given the Pride of Tamil Nadu award by the New York Tamil Sangham at a gala event at Queens Museum of Art in the Big Apple. Prakash M. Swamy, the president of the Sangam, appreciated Aishwarya’s directorial instincts and described 3 as a ‘bold film’ by a debutant director.

He also had words of praise for Aishwarya for her simplicity off-screen despite being the elder daughter of superstar Rajinikanth and wife of Dhanush. He drew referenes to Aishwarya’s dancing abilities and recalled her winning the Tamil Nadu Government’s Kalaimaamani award for her prowess in bharatanatyam. Aishwarya was then felicitated with gifts by the organizers of the function.

Vijay-Hansika for Rajini’s Annamalai remake?

Superstar Rajinikanth’s mega-hit film Annamalai released as many as 20 years ago in 1992. Rajini, who played a milkman who becomes an industrialist in the film, redefined the art of starring in title songs in the film. Vandhenda Palkaran… sung by the ever-dependable and legendary SPB and set to music by Deva remains a huge hit even today. It is now rumoured that the film might be remade with Ilayathalapathy Vijay in the lead.

Rajini paired up opposite Khushboo in the film which created many box-ofice records and released prior to his another super-duper hit Baashah. Latest reports emanating from Kollywood say that a proposal is being floated by a producer who wants to remake the Rajini-hit with Vijay reprising Rajini’s role. Rajini’s screen presence is matched by none and in that sense, it is skeptical as to whether Vijay would be able to do even half of what Rajini did.

Hansika, who paired up opposite Vijay in the hit film Velayudham which released late last year, is said to be in the reckoning to play Vijay’s heroine in the remake version. She would have to reprise the role essayed with aplomb by Khushboo in the original version. When asked about the remake effort, Vijay said that he hasn’t heard anything about the ‘remake’ effort.

“This is news to me; I too read about it in websites and am not sure about it,” was Hansika’s reply when queried as to whether she has signed up the film.

After criticizing CSK, Dhanya Balakrishna quits Kollywood forever

Bangalore-based Dhanya Balakrishna is an upcoming actress who has played small and significant roles in films such as 7am Arivu and Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Eppadi. The actress, however, has gotten herself into neck-deep trouble following her disparaging remarks against the Chennai Super Kings team and its entry into the play-off round on her Facebook account.

CSK made it to the play-off round thanks to defeats suffered by three other teams, all contenders to make it to the final round. However, it demolished Mumbai and Delhi teams with lion-hearted performances before losing out to Kolkata narrowly in a high-voltage final held in Chennai last Sunday. Dhanya’s remarks, which were taken note on on networking sites, have been sharp criticisms of CSK as she couldn’t digest Team Bangalore’s ouster from the IPL-V tournament.

“Dear Chennai, you beg for water; we give! You beg for electricity, we give!. ur people come and occupy our beautiful city and kocha paduthify it, we allow and nw u were at our mercy to go to playoffs, n we let be!!. like this you begging – we giving! dai ungalukku vekkame illaya da??” were the unwarranted remarks recorded by Dhanya, which have been vehemently opposed by many in the past week or so. It is widely felt that she shouldn’t have mixed politics and sport while regretting her Team’s ouster.

Facebook is full of messages condemning Dhanya who was shocked to find opposition of such a huge proportion. Following this, she has issued a statement saying “I have decided to quit Chennai and Kollywood. I earnestly hope this would bring a full stop to the issue. I don’t have any future plans to come back to Chennai to star in Tamil films; I have even withdrawn from the already committed films.”

Suriya:Jyothika to come back to films at appropriate time

Actor Suriya has hinted that his wife and actress Jyothika would make a comeback in films at an ‘appropriate time’. Jyothika was a very successful actress and was at the height of her popularity when she sacrificed her career and got married to Suriya in 2006. After marriage, Jyothika has been busy with her family life and has taken a sabbatical from films.

Even as her fans are hoping to watch her back on big-screen, Jyothika had remained tight-lipped about her ‘comeback’ but continued to star in commercials. She also starred in a Malayalam film Seetha Kalyamam in 2009. Suriya’s revelation that Jyothika might make a comeback to films at an ‘appropriate’ time has come as music to the ears of many of Jyothika’s fans.

“Jyothika is willing to act in films again. In fact, I have never asked to discontinue her acting career. The problem is that starring commercials keeps her away from the family hardly for a day or for a few days. On the other hand, shooting for films might keep her always from me and the children for a longer time, an eventuality which she is not prepared to face right now.

It’s going to be a very first in Tamil cinema being a superhero offering. Mugamoodi stars actor Jiiva and Pooja Hegde in lead roles and had it shoots conducted in the Karaikal region recently. There were some pumping actions sequences filmed between Jiiva and villain Narain, under the able assistance of Wing Tsun master Sifu Tony.

Completing the shoots Jiiva said, “Mugamoodi schedule pack. Heading to Chennai. Couldn’t wait to go home.” On his way from Tirupathi to Chennai our helpless Super hero was stuck in traffic. His vehicle stopped midway, as angry  protests blocked the roads. Since it was concerning some political issues in Andhra Pradesh, the local police couldn’t step into action immediately. Reaching home safely, now there is news of director Mysskin and his Mugamoodi crew counting down the release date. “As Jiiva plays a Messiah protecting his city from the evil ones, the movie will be high on the patriotic factor,” informs a birdie. The makers are zeroing in for the Independence weekend, preferably August 14th for Mugamoodi. So Surya’s Maatraan and Mugamoodi go head on head, on the most awaited National holiday.

Ajith-Vijay to star in Rajini-Kamal’s Ninaithalae Inikkum remake?

Though it’s not yet confirmed, reports emanating from Kollywood in the past two days have been harping on the remote possibility of top star Ajith and Vijay coming together after more than a decade to star in the remake of the super-duper hit film Ninaithalae Inikkum which had the legendary combo of superstar Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan playing the lead roles.

Directed by K. Balachander, who is a mentor of both Rajini and Kamal, Ninaithalae Inikkum was a music hit with mesmerizing numbers by ‘Mellisai Mannar’ Viswanathan. The songs in the film are heard with rapt attention even after almost 3 decades of the release of the film. It is said that the ‘dream’ combo of Ajith and Vijay might come together to star in this film’s remake.

In their early years in the late nineties, Vijay and Ajith have starred together in a few films. Now that both of them have their respective huge fan base, it remains to be seen whether they’d agree to star together again. It was reported that Selvaa, who has made many remake films to his credit, would be the director of the film. It may be recalled by viewers that it was Selvaa who introduced Ajith to Tamil films through Amaravathy.

While Vijay specializes in starring in the remake of popular Telugu films in Tamil, Ajith hasn’t done many remakes. Speaking about the rumour, Selvaa says “As of now, I don’t have any plans to remake Ninaithalae Inikkum in Tamil. As such, the question of Ajith and Vijay coming together to star in the film doesn’t exist at all. In m view, the Rajini-Kamal starrer is a ‘classic’ film and it may not be remade again by any director!”

Most Recent Rajini asks fan to withdraw nomination from Pudukkottai bye-election

Superstar Rajinikanth has asked Sridhar, a functionary of the Pudukkottai District Rajinikanth Fans’ Association, to withdraw his candidature for the bye-elections to be held to the Pudukkottai Assembly constituency. Sridhar has reportedly filed an unilateral candidature and has neither informed Rajini in advance nor sought his prior permission to contest the elections on behalf of the Fans’ Association.

Rajini probably holds the world record when it comes to the number of active fan clubs operating in his name all over the State, in other parts of the country and even in some foreign countries. However, Rajini hasn’t given into the temptation to enter politics and test his strength, something his contemporaries Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar had tried their hands at.

An upset Rajini has reportedly issued a ‘diktat’ asking Sridhar to withdraw from the fray immediately. He has also not taken kindly to the fact that Sridhar has been using the Fans’ Association’s flag and the members in his election campaign and at the time of filing his nomination recently. The ruling AIADMK is all set to sweep the seat with DMK choosing to boycott the elections.

Sudhakar, a functionary of the fans’ association, said that “Thalaivar has never opposed our political affiliations in the past; members of the association are free to contest in the elections or campaign for any party. However, none of them should use Rajini’s name or the flag of the Association. This has always been impressed by Rajini who have always wanted his fans to take care of their families first before indulging in other activities.”

Whether or not Sridhar would oblige and withdraw his candidature would be known in the coming days!
